Before becoming an esk, Rudy had been a Rottweiler. His caretakers spent their days tending to their small farm a little ways from their house, Rudy always alongside them. The relationship between the owners and their dog were that of parents and a child, and Rudy was as spoiled as can be. That is, until the couple had an actual child. They began to worry more about their kid than their dog and started neglecting him. Their behaviour escalated from not playing with him, to not feeding him, to ignoring him altogether. Eventually, the family packed up their things and moved away, leaving Rudy abandoned and malnourished.


Rudy wandered from the empty house, searching blindly for his caretakers whom he assumed were in some kind of danger. Why else would they leave without him? There must be something wrong. His travels lead him to their little garden, the place where his fondest memories were made. Rudy's mind quickly drifted from looking for his owners to looking for something to satiate his nutrient-deprived body. His hunger-driven eyes landed on the heirloom tomatoes, glowing with a jade green that signaled their unripened state. The dangers unbeknownst to him, he consumed the fruit without hesitation at a ravenous pace, the crop practically exploding between his teeth. A severe feeling of nausea overtook Rudy. His intestines felt like they were being shredded and burned, and the pain was nothing less than excruciating. His legs giving out from the agony, Rudy collapsed onto his side and shut his eyes, as if it would help ease his distress. As he lay there, panting and quivering, resentment for the couple sprouted in his mind. It was their fault that he was suffering. They left him. They left him. 

His eyes fluttered open once more and shut for the last time, not before he could catch a glimpse of a mysterious figure roaming towards him.
